Child-killer Salazar asks for new trial

Eddie Salazar, Sr., sentenced to life imprisonment earlier this year for the murder of his eight-month-old son, Eddie Salazar, Jr. is asking for a new trial. Documents have been filed in the Missouri Southern District Court of Appeals. The child's body was found in Spring River on Feb. 6, 2010. It took three hours and 45 minutes for a jury to find Salazar guilty after hearing the state's case, which concluded with a forensic pathologist testifying the baby had three skull fractures and his death was due to blunt force. Ariel Goldsmith, the pathologist, said the baby would have had to hit the ground with "considerable force" to cause those injuries. The defense did not call any witnesses. Online court records indicate the taxpayers will pay for Salazar's appeal.
