Heat advisory extended through Tuesday for Joplin area


HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT TUESDAY...

* SHORT TERM TRENDS...EVENING TEMPERATURES WILL SLOWLY FALL INTO
THE 80S...WITH OVERNIGHT LOWS IN THE MID TO UPPER 60S...TO
AROUND 70 DEGREES. TEMPERATURES WILL RAPIDLY WARM ON
SUNDAY...WITH READINGS IN THE MID 90S EXPECTED BY LATE MORNING.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...THE HOT AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE
THROUGH AT LEAST TUESDAY FOR SOUTHEAST KANSAS INTO THE MISSOURI
OZARKS.

* TEMPERATURES...DAILY MID AND LATE AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES AND HEAT
INDEX VALUES WILL RANGE FROM THE UPPER 90S TO NEAR 105 DEGREES
EACH AFTERNOON SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY.

* IMPACTS...THOSE TAKING PART IN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES WILL BECOME SUSCEPTIBLE
TO HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES IF PROPER PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN
POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE
