Now this guy I trust!

I just came across this recent video of former Joplin R-8 Superintendent Jim Simpson, now superintendent of the Lindbergh School District and thought I would share it with my readers who remember those wonderful days when the Joplin School District was climbing Mt. Joplin and had test scores that increased every year. Those were the days.

I would sacrifice part of my salary--with a smile--to get this man back in Joplin. Those truly were much better days than the nightmare we face now. Of course, he wasn't perfect. He was the one who brought Bessie here. Serious mistake.

Character does make a great basis in education. It is far more important than the laptop education being forced down the throats of our students in the administration's effort to be a 21st century model of an "exceptional" school. What's next, give them all smart phones and abandon the 100 million dollar facilities, and let the students call in their work. No teachers would be needed then. I fear our schools are on a path to be "exceptionally dependent" upon technology without the ability to process the information sans computers. Students can get the same education the district is offering through a much better format that the Khan Academy offers in computer technology. Why doesn't the administration just keep pushing pencils, and let the teachers teach?

Those were my first years at Joplin- I climbed the mountain with the rest of you- even as a beginning teacher back then, life WAS so much easier. And better- I knew my kids better and felt like I was still making a difference.

Anonymous 8:31 am all books at the high school were destroyed on 5/22. Laptops were a much more efficient way to get the kids back to school on time. And WELCOME to the year 2013. Technology is here to stay. Pushing pencils will do nothing but hurt the students once they start college.

Yes, technology is here to stay....but, what about common sense, discipline, reading, writing, arithmetic as the saying goes...technology makes life easier, but there has to be basics in place first

4:09 you are living in a lavender world where everything is perfect...except for the fact that not everything is perfect....I remember when we used to be told that there are individual learning styles...is that not considered anymore
