Ann Wagner: Nancy Pelosi's action was a slap in the face to President Trump and the dignity of the House

(From Second District Congresswoman Ann Wagner)

The President’s State of the Union address detailed the incredible accomplishments America has achieved in the last year.

Our middle class is booming and the unemployment rate is as low as it’s been in half a century. Seven million jobs have been created under his leadership, and in Missouri, real median household income is up eight percent. The economy continues to grow, lifting up working families and creating greater opportunities for the next generation.

President Trump has said he would get to work for America, and he told us all how he has kept that promise. He has made it a priority to lower prescription drug costs, secure our border, and combat human trafficking. I will continue to work with him for our suburban families to advance critical initiatives such as passing paid parental leave legislation, addressing the skyrocketing costs of childcare, and ensuring our national security remains strong.

Now that President Trump has been acquitted of both articles of impeachment, it is time Congress got back to the People’s business of governing and build on his record of achievements for the American people. Read my State of the Union press release here.

I introduced bipartisan legislation with my colleagues to help prevent repeated community flooding. We must help regions at risk of repeat flooding become more resilient. By incentivizing communities to plan ahead for damaging floods, we can avoid continually subsidizing the rebuilding of flood-prone properties through the National Flood Insurance Program. This bill aims to prevent loss of life and property and help communities withstand major floods like those we have recently experienced in Missouri. Read more about the bill here.

Republicans introduced a privileged resolution to admonish the Speaker for ripping up the President’s State of the Union address. Her action was a slap in the face to the President, the dignity of the House, and all of the Americans the President honored in his speech. Democrats should allow us to vote on this legislation so they can go on record and tell the country whether they support such behavior or not.

You will spend billions on protecting flood prone areas that never should have been allowed building permits, but campaign donors speak louder than the citizens protection. Best way is stop any further building in areas deemed unfit for construction. Tearing up his speech was appropriate due to the lies it contained and worthless morals of our poor person that threatens congress due to their lack of conscience.
