St. Charles Republican's bill would permit senior citizens serving life sentences to leave prison

Rep. Tom Hannegan, R-St. Charles, has filed a bill, HB 2034, that would permit prisoners over age 65 who were sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole to be eligible for release.

The bill does not include prisoners who are sex offenders or who had a previous conviction for a dangerous felony

Testimony on the bill was heard Thursday in the House Special Committee on Criminal Justice.
