Joplin R-8 officials: Thank you, voters for overwhelmingly passing bond issue

Joplin R-8 voters on Tuesday approved a bond issue that would combine the district's two oldest elementary schools, Columbia and West Central, into one new building.

The issue also included an addition to Kelsey Norman Elementary School.

The issue needed 57.4 percent approval to pass and far exceeded that, receiving 3,686 yes votes to 977 no votes for a whopping 79 percent.

The district placed the following message on its Facebook page Wednesday, along with the accompanying photo:

The Joplin Schools 2020 Bond Issue passed by a 79% majority! Thank you voters for your overwhelming support.
