Joplin R-8 Board approves 'separation' from Jeff Hafer, hires four teachers, transportation director

During an October 26 closed session, the Joplin R-8 Board of Education approved the "separation" of former Joplin High School baskeball coach Jeff Hafer from the district and hired four teachers.

Justin Henson was hired as transportation director on a 6-1 vote with Brent Jordan casting the dissenting vote.

The board also approved the hiring of 25 classified employees, 19 substitutes and the contract of licensed psychologist John Godfrey.

Legal matters were also discussed, according to the minutes.

Hafer, a former University of Missouri basketball player who was an all-state player at Joplin High School, resigned his coaching position after the 2020-2021 school year, remaining as a business teacher.
