McDonald County R-1 COVID-free, Board approves resurfacing of Mustang Stadium track

(From the McDonald County R-1 School District)

In an effort to keep you informed of the decisions being made and considered in the McDonald County School District, we will be featuring a few of the highlights from each McDonald County School Board of Education meeting.

The following points of discussion are from the board meeting on 11/11/2021:

COVID Update

The board received some welcome news regarding COVID Levels in the District. Assistant Superintendent Joy Hardridge reported as of 11/11/21 there are no active COVID cases and no students or staff quarantined or excluded. This is the first time the district has been COVID-free since the pandemic began.

Resurfacing of the track at Mustang Stadium

The board approved by a 6-1 vote to resurface the track at Mustang Stadium. The existing track is approximately 8 years old and is due for some necessary maintenance. The board decided to go with a full pour resurface of the track versus a respray of the surface after hearing the pros and cons of both methods. The cost of the full pour is approximately $215,600 with the funds coming from the District’s general savings account.

By locking in the contract now, the board saves at least $7,000 due to expected price increases. The full pour resurfacing project is expected to start in late spring or early summer of 2022.

School Board Election Filings Timeline

The board unanimously approved the opening and closing dates for candidate filing for the upcoming April 5, 2022 school board election. Filings will begin on December 7, 2021, and end on December 28, 2021.

Interested parties can file at the McDonald County R1 School District office at 10 Stampede Dr, Anderson, MO, during that time frame. Two school board seats are up for election with Frank Woods and Chris Smith being the incumbents in those positions.
