Mark Rohr to Marshall: I'm out of here- former Joplin city manager announces retirement

Former Joplin City Manager Mark Rohr announced his retirement as city manager in Marshall, Texas effective January 14.

Rohr's announcement came in a notice to the Marshall City Council in which Rohr said he was providing notice as required by his contract.

The decision comes after five city council meetings in which Rohr's contract, which expires in January, was discussed during closed session.

After a brief one sentence announcement of his retirement, the rest of Rohr's letter recounted his accomplishments during the three years he served as Marshall city manager.

Following the listing of 13 accomplishments, Rohr wrote, "Truly, Marshall has been mobilized. All of this was accomplished while enduring a pandemic and experiencing the rigors of the Blizzard of '21.

"It is my fervent hope that Marshall retains the proactive mindset and brings in the leadership necessary to continue to build on the significant accomplishments. Your continued prosperity and those of successive generations depends on doing just that."

Rohr served as Joplin city manager from 2004 to 2014, guiding the city through the recovery following the May 22, 2011 tornado. He was fired by the Joplin City Council by a 5-4 vote in 2014.

Following his departure from Joplin, he served as city manager in League City, Texas.
