Multiple media outlets are reporting that three Joplin Police Department officers and a suspect were shot this afternoon during an altercation that started at the Buckle, a fashion store in the Northpark Crossing area just off 7th and Rangeline.
Police offered few details, only that gunfire was exchanged at that location, the suspect stole a police car and fled. Officers caught up to him again at 9th and Connecticut, with more shots exchanged.
Three officers and the suspect are being treated at local hospitals. Two of the officers and the suspect suffered life-threatening injuries, Joplin News First reports.
Missouri Highway Patrol has been assisting with the investigation.
The police department will hold a press conference 9 a.m. Wednesday to provide details.
