Sam Graves on Biden's student loan action: This has to be stopped

(From Sixth District Congressman Sam Graves)

After months of haggling with his political advisors, President Biden finally pulled the trigger on his disastrous plan to “forgive” student loan debt.

The President issued an executive order to unilaterally strike $10,000 from every student loan that has been borrowed by someone making up to $125,000 or couples making up to $250,000. Let’s be clear—this isn’t actually forgiving any debt. It’s transferring responsibility for a debt to someone who didn’t agree to it, to the tune of at least $300 billion.

In other words, it’s going to land square on the backs of hard-working taxpayers who didn’t take out the loans in the first place. And it’s just one more notch in the inflation belt, driving up the cost of living for the same folks who, once again, didn’t take out the loan as well as those who did. Ultimately, nobody wins.

Look around. There’s a lot of people who chose not to go to college, either because it wasn’t for them or because they just couldn’t afford it. They weren’t willing to take on a loan to pay for it either. The President has arbitrarily made the determination that truckers and plumbers should foot the bill for lawyers and executives.

There’s also a lot of folks who chose to go to college, working multiple jobs while getting their education or with parents who worked multiple jobs to pay for it. Imagine the shock to find out they’re also responsible for those who took out loans.

The President’s plan is clearly socialism, it’s unfair and it’s just plain wrong. This isn’t just me saying this. The Washington Post is crying foul because they know this is a regressive plan, which mostly benefits the wealthy, contrary to the way it’s been sold.

And Nancy Pelosi said just last summer that the President didn’t have the authority to make a move like this. At the end of the day, this sets a terrible precedent, on a multitude of levels.

Not only that, but this ploy ignores the problems that exist, even making some of them worse. If you thought the cost of higher education was expensive now, the government paying off student loans is only going to send it through the roof. We need to work on solving the underlying problems, not shovel money out the door in a taxpayer-funded scheme to appease a few folks and get some political support.

While this idea has been thrown around as a liberal platitude for a while, it always appeared that basic economics and common sense would stand in the way of it moving forward. That’s now been thrown out the window. This is a disaster and it’s got to be stopped.

So Sam, what's your plan? Because more often than not the only plan Republicans have is to be against whatever Democrats are trying to accomplish.

Pay your bills or get your credit smashed, that's the plan. It's rather simple. I know that personal responsibility is an alien concept to most Democrats. It will take time and we shall be patient.

Congressman Sam Graves is squalling again?

Let's check out all the people and businesses who had PPP loans forgiven in Tarkio Missouri- zip code 64491.

That's probably just the same kind of bad for a guy like Sam. Loans were made and forgiven.

Unless he might be a hypocrite of some sort. If Sam hasn't criticized at least some of these folks from Tarkio who got PPP loans and then had the loan forgiven instead of paying the loan back, then he might just be a hypocrite.

Here's the link to the searchable database that shows 54 PPP loans that were made in zip code 64491, many of which were forgiven, for people and businesses of various sorts.

Over 40 of these loans made in zip code 64491 show as being for more than $10,000 and were listed as being forgiven.

This appears be the exact same type of thing that Sam is all worked up about at the moment.
Unless Sam has some excuse why this time it's different.

Listed among all these loans to folks with a Tarkio zip code is a loan for $18,550 to some corn farmer named Daniel Graves. This same loan is listed as being forgiven in the amount of $18,682.

Not only the principle but the accrued interest were forgiven.

As Tarkio is such a large place (More than 1500 residents according to the 2020 census!), one could assume that the corn farmer from Tarkio named Daniel Graves has no relation at all to the politician Sam Graves from Tarkio. The corn farmer might even live on a farm far beyond the city limits. The farm could be half way to Elmo or Skidmore!

As a matter of fact, there could be a whole lot of people with the last name of Graves living in the Tarkio vicinity that the politician Sam Graves has never even heard of much less met!

So perhaps the politician Sam Graves will tell one of his interns to try and figure out who this corn farmer Daniel Graves from Tarkio is, and how to get in contact.

Then Congressman Sam Graves can whine directly to corn farmer Daniel Graves about that $18,682 loan he had which was forgiven that someone else is now responsible for that didn't agree to it.

I am Not Fingerpointing at Republicans, Democrates, Etc., since both Parties have done their Damage to the American Economy and are Bankrupting this Country and our Future Childrens Hopes and Dreams...

Everyone at sometime or another needs a Helping Hand - - But, Our Government cannot keep giving Hand Out after Hand Out - - Stimulus Checks, PPP for Businesses, Writing Off Peoples Debt / Student Loans - Paying Peoples Living Expenses Generation after Generation - - WHO DO YOU THINK IS PAYING FOR THIS - - THE AVERAGE HARDWORKING AMERICAN - The Government Does Not Do Anything to Create Revenue - they Blindly use our Tax Dollars and then just Print and Borrow Money - - America Owes China - 1-Trillion Dollars alone.

This has to STOP - We are Bankrupting Future Generations, Your Kids, GrandKids, Great GrandKids and Great Great GrandKids - - Will be Paying Off These Debts - The Federal Debt is 24-Trillion Dollas and is Expected to Raise another 13-Trillion Dollars before 2028. This will set our Future Generations Further and Further Behind - to Achieving the American Dream - of Getting a Good Education, a Good Job, Home Ownership, and Providing for their Families.

It is Sad that our Politicians - are Not Looking at the Realities of what they are Doing and Not Doing for the People of this Country - We were Once the Greatest Country and Economy in the World - - Not Any More..........

Democrats don't understand the fundamentals of economics

Well I didn’t go to college and acquire any debt. So where is my 10k check I should be rewarded.

Sounds like the government is discriminating against people without college debt.

I agree. I say we start a class action against the Biden Administration, asking for our $10-20K each. I'll take mine direct deposit. 👏👍

This is a "sad attempt" by the Democrats to buy "mid-term" votes. Current and future students will think - I can ignore my student debt because it will be forgiven - this will only increase total student debt.

This is a "slap in the face" to all those who have "toughed it out" and paid off their student debts.

As usual the government - does not try to fix the core problem - college costs are way to high and taxpayer money should not be used to finance student debt. All student debt should be privately funded - and if this causes a drop in enrollment and some colleges to close - so be it. Colleges should have to stand on their own - and not taxpayer funded.

There is no such thing as a "Hard Working American". Americans are lazy by nature and more than willing to look the other way when Illegals perform the hard work.

The current student debt amount is 1.62 TRILLION DOLLARS. Imagine how much it will be in 5 years - if the spigot is not shut off.

Is that Sam's brother on the government tit for $18,550?

Some of y'all need to take a look at your records and realize the government gave you tens of thousands of dollars just for having kids. You are socialists on the government tit.
