Carthage R-9 Board expected to take second shot at passing Performing Arts Center issue

Carthage R-9 Board of Education is expected to approve a resolution to put a performing arts center at the high school on the April ballot.

A special meeting with the resolution as the only agenda items is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Carthage South Technical Center Community Room.

District voters approved the measure by 2,474 votes in favor to 2,238 votes against, 52.2 percent in Augustbut the total was considerably short of the 57.1 percent needed for passage.

The issue reportedly would be virtually the same as the one that was rejected in August with the district's 83-cent tax levy being extended for two more years to 2042.
