Lamar R-1 selects Benjamin O'Connor as superintendent

The Lamar Board of Education selected Dr. Benjamin O'Connor as the next superintendent of the Lamar R-1 School District. He will officially begin his duties July 1, 2023.

Dr.O'Connor is currently the superintendent of the Bronaugh R-7 School District. He has 17 years of educational experience, including eight years as an administrator with one year in the role of superintendent of schools.

Dr. O'Connor is not a stranger to the Lamar School District as he previously served as director of special education for the Barton, Dade, Jasper Special Education Cooperative.







Lamar R-1 Board of Education President Randy Day said, "Lamar R-1 is excited to begin working with Dr. O'Connor as the next superintendent of schools. Dr. O'Connor has a strong background serving as an educational leader and someone who believes in all students. Dr. O'Con will be a great addition to our current amazing staff.'

Dr. O'Connor earned his bachelor's degree from Pittsburg State University and his doctorate degree from St. Louis University.

"I am honored to be selected as the new superintendent of the Lamar School District," said Dr. O'Connor. "I am grateful to have this opportunity to serve the Lamar community and intend to make a profound, positive and long-lasting impact. With a "students first" mindset, I will work collaboratively to move the district in a positive direction and improve educational outcomes for all students."
