Trial date set for Joplin man charged with murder, 6 counts of child abuse

A pre-trial conference is scheduled 9 a.m. Monday in Jasper County Circuit Court for a Joplin man charged with first degree murder and six counts of child abuse in connection with the June 2, 2020 death of 2-year-old Jameson Long and events leading up to that death.

The jury trial of Brian O'Grodnick, 24, is scheduled to begin April 3 with Judge Gayle Crane officiating. Five days have been set aside for the trial, according to online court records.

The allegations against O'Grodnick are detailed in the probable cause statement.

On the morning of May 31, 2020, Joplin Police were called to the residence to provide medical assistance to a non-responsive child. (The child) was transported to a local hospital and then transferred to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

Medical staff observed (the child) to have multiple bruises to his ear, scalp, face, neck, jaw, chest and abdomen. He also had a rib fracture, jaw injury, contusion to his liver and pancreas as well as brain and retinal hemorrhages. The injuries were caused by blunt force trauma.

(The child) was pronounced dead on June 2, 2020 as a result of those injuries.

In response to questioning by police, O'Grodnick admitted to repeatedly striking (the child) in the head and abdomen between May 30, 2020 and the morning of May 31, 2020.

The beatings that killed Jameson Long were the last in a long-term abuse of the child, according to the probable cause statement in O'Grodnick's earlier felony child abuse cases:

On multiple dates in 2020, Brian O'Grodnick committed the offense of abuse of a child at (an apartment) at 1920 E. 8th Street, Joplin, Jasper County, against a two-year-old child.

On April 20, 2020, O'Grodnick pinches the face of (the child) forcing the corners of his mouth to touch then shoves him by his face.

On April 21, 2020, O'Grodnick again pinches (the child's) face while forcing him to make statements then slaps him in the face.

On April 22, 2020, O'Grodnick chokes (the child) with one hand around his throat while he is made to beg for water.

Also on April 22, 2020, O'Grodnick puts his fist up to (the child's) face lightly two times then on the third time he punches (the child) in the face.

On May 1, 2020, O'Grodnick grabs (the child) by the hair and asks (him) "do you love me" then shoves him.

All of these incidents were discovered on videos on O'Grodnick's cell phone. O'Grodnick admitted to making the videos and performing the abuse against (the child) under Miranda.

In the videos, (the child) is observed to have multiple bruises and scratches on his face and chin and is crying and shaking.

Legally they need to throw the book at this Sick Perverted Person - - he should never be allowed to see the outside of a jail cell the rest of his life - - and I hope he is given the jail house treatment he deserves for abusing a sweet and innocent Child.

We have got to Stop giving and allowing Criminals - to use the "Poor Pitiful Me" – Defense - - I had a Bad Life, I am on Drugs, Alcohol, Etc., - there is no excuse for what he or others do to children. NO EXCUSE…

Judges, Prosecuting Attorneys, and Juries – need to send a Message in our Society – to Stop Allowing these Criminal to - Hurt, Use, and Abuse Children - - These Innocent Children are a Gift and should not be Treated that away -

So – Can we stop looking at these Criminals - - like they are some type of Experiment and who can be reformed - - THEY CANNOT - - READ BELOW – THESE ARE THE FACTS.

A 2018 – 9-Year Study by the United States Justice Department between (2005–2014) including 401,288 Prisoners from over 30-States, who were Released in 2005 had 1,994,000 Arrests after being Released in 2005 – during that 9-Year Period – these individuals Averaged over 5-Arrests per Released Prisoner – Listed Below is the Link - -

https://bjs.ojp.gov/library/publications/2018-update-prisoner-recidivism-9-year-follow-period-2005-2014

An estimated 68% of released prisoners were arrested within 3 years, 79% within 6 years, and 83% within 9 years.

Eighty-two percent of prisoners arrested during the 9-year period were arrested within the first 3 years.

Almost half (47%) of prisoners who did not have an arrest within 3 years of release were arrested during years 4 through 9.

Forty-four percent of released prisoners were arrested during the first year following release, while 24% were arrested during year-9.

So STOP – Feeling Sorry for these Criminals - - these are Life Choices they made and have to be Held Accountable for - - because given an Opportunity Next Time – Your Children or Your Family may be a Victim of these Criminals…

I am pretty close to this case, not by relation or anything but. I worked with both the mother, father and the accused Brian. To answer your post earlier about where the mother was during this, she worked for a call center during this time, and when the incident that ended the Childs life, she was down stairs on taking non stop phone calls as she was "at work" but since this was when covid started they sent all of us work from home so ya, she had no idea any of the abuse was happening, and she did notice some issues that the child was having and took him to a dr. to be looked at to find out why his seizers was getting worse, and also noticed some new bruises but just chopped that up to being A young boy, and dr. came back saying everything checked out normal so the boy didn't tell the dr. about the abuse. So she was clueless in all what happened to him till the last time that put the kid in to urgent care. Oh and it was said that any of the multiple time that the monster abused him, she was on the clock at work taking calls and was never done in front of her, and the videos taken oh him committing these acts was on his phone from what I know which I assume she didn't have access to, as they hadn't even been dating that long at the time.
