Dirk Deaton, R-Noel)One week after the legislative session began, Missouri House Speaker Dean Plocher announced the committee positions the members of the House will hold for the 102nd General Assembly. Plocher said the chairs, vice chairs, and committee members he selected are positioned to best utilize their knowledge and expertise to positively impact the policymaking process.
“We’re fortunate to have members with decades of relevant experience and extensive knowledge in the policy areas we will work to address over the next two years. The chairs and vice chairs of our committees are well-versed on the topics their committees will consider and will provide strong leadership and guidance for their members as they take on the issues that matter to Missouri families and businesses,” said Plocher.
He added, “I’m excited to see what our new members bring to the table as well. They come from all walks of life and all parts of the state, and will provide an extremely valuable perspective that will greatly benefit the work we do in committee and on the floor.”
I am honored to have been selected to continue to serve as the Vice-Chairman of the Budget Committee. For the past three years I have served as Vice-Chairman and have helped to lead the effort of passing a fiscally responsible state spending plan that balances the needs and priorities of our state.
I also take great pride in our oversight work to make sure bureaucrats are spending your tax dollars appropriately. I look forward to continuing this important work for the next two years.
In addition to serving as Vice-Chairman of Budget, I am also Vice-Chairman of the Special Committee on Tax Reform and am a member of the Special Committee on Government Accountability. The Special Committee on Tax Reform will be tasked at looking at further tax cuts and other reforms of taxation in Missouri.
We made great progress in our special session last fall by cutting the personal income tax, but many of us feel state government is still consuming too much of our state economy. There is more we can do to provide relief to Missouri families and make Missouri more competitive for business growth, which is exactly what this committee will look at.
The Special Committee on Government Accountability will be looking at all the pandemic related spending that has taken place over the past several years. Again, oversight is an important function of the General Assembly and we need to make sure there is a proper accounting of these funds. Don't pick on the poor guy. He is on his third term. In four more years he will have to find a job and pay for his own license plates
