Joplin man charged with kidnapping, domestic assault

The Newton County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed kidnapping and domestic assault charges today against a Joplin man who allegedly dragged a woman into a house, kicked her numerous times and threatened to burn the house down.

Newton County Prosecuting Attorney William Lynch, noting the long criminal history of Clayton James Flowers (DOB 1993), including three previous convictions for domestic assault and a conviction for robbery, asked that he either be held without bond or with a high bond.

From the probable cause statement:

On 07/15/2024 at approximately 1833 hours, I was dispatched to Hwy NN in reference to a male subject barricaded inside saying that he was going to burn the residence down.

On my arrival, I contacted Clayton Flowers via telephone and talked him into coming outside. Clayton advised nothing happened and he is not sure why people called.

I made contact with Victim 1 (Vl) via telephone who advised that Clayton drug her out of her car and forced her to go inside the residence. Vl stated she was on the ground inside the residence when Clayton kicked her in the side numerous times. Vl stated she believes that Clayton was going to kill her.

I made contact with Clayton's mother, Witness 1 (Wl), who lives next door. Wl advised that she saw Clayton pull Vl out of the car and drag her inside. Wl stated she saw Clayton kick open the front door and kick Vl into the residence. Wl stated that Vl limped over to her residence and asked for a ride to get away from Clayton.

Wl stated that Vl said if she does not get away, that she believed Clayton was going to kill her. I read Clayton his Miranda warning and he stated he understood his rights. I asked Clayton if he would answer any of my questions. Clayton agreed to answer my questions and he stated that nothing happened. I explained how a witness saw him dragging Vl out of the car and into the residence.

Clayton stated there couldn't be a witness because no one was around.

The prosecuting attorney's request for no bond or high bond noted the Department of Corrections released Flowers on parole May 28 after he served less than eight years of a 15-year sentence for the robbery charge.

I know this I love Clayton very much! And I actually was around him many times since he was home finally home. And he was nothing but more than loving and kind and sweet and gentle so much more than even before so before people wanted judge they might need to understand that poor baby has been through some stuff
