Documents: Cooper had planned to run for statewide office in 2008

The guilty plea entered by Rep. Nathan Cooper, R-Cape Girardeau Thursday to immigration fraud charges appears to have been something that came up all of a sudden.
How else can it be explained since only one week earlier, Cooper had amended his committee organization documents to indicate he was planning on running for statewide office in 2008?
Before Aug. 2, Missouri Ethics Commission documents filed by the Friends of Cooper 2008 committee showed Cooper was planning on running for re-election for his House seat.
