Second Joplin book signing for 5:41: Stories of the Joplin Tornado set for December 10


The second Joplin signing for our book, 5:41: Stories from the Joplin Tornado is scheduled for 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, December 10, at Hastings Books, Music, and Video in Joplin.

The book, which includes stories written by tornado survivors and those who came to help after May 22, is available at Hastings, Changing Hands Book Shop, and Countryside Florist in Joplin, and can also be purchased online.

In addition to the survivor stories, 5:41 includes the following features:

-Photos taken by co-author John Hacker within moments after the tornado

-Hacker's interviews with people trying to deal with the immediate aftermath

-My stories about a church in which four members were killed during Sunday services, another about the situation at the 15th Street Wal-Mart store, the effect on East Middle School where I teach, and the story of Joplin High School graduate Will Norton, who was killed in the tornado.

-The obituaries of those who died

-The complete text of the Joplin Tornado Memorial Service at Missouri Southern State University

-The final report from the U. S. Weather Service
