With all of the precincts reporting, Carthage businessman John Bartosh has won a resounding victory in his first effort at public office.
Bartosh, who had the backing of Jasper County Sheriff Archie Dunn had an easy win with 3949 votes to 3,298 for James Spradling and 3010 for Chuck Surface.
Bartosh's candidacy started after a series of hassles between the County Commission, led by Surface, and Dunn over a law enforcement sales tax. The Commission did not back Dunn on the issue, so he took it upon himself to sell it to the public and was successful in doing so.
That success was a follow-up to his successful try for sheriff as an independent after he was overlooked by the Jasper County Republican Party after filling in as interim sheriff following the departure under fire of Bill Pierce.
Dunn's me against the party establishment stance has worked every time and it appears it worked for Bartosh in this race.
