Murdoch to sell Ottaway newspapers

GateHouse Media and CNHI should be two of the contenders for Ottaway Newspapers, the only section of Dow Jones that new owner Rupert Murdoch plans to sell.
Though the newspaper companies are not mentioned in the Editor & Publisher article in which Murdoch made his intentions clear, they have been mentioned in previous articles speculating about the Ottaway Newspapers' fate:

"We will be selling the local newspapers fairly quickly," Murdoch responded when asked by an analyst. "Outside of that, we are keeping everything and developing it."

Murdoch says the company also expects to save approximately $50 million by trimming some corporate functions at Dow Jones. When asked if other cuts across Dow Jones was in the pipeline, Murdoch said, "We are going to be in a hiring mode almost immediately."

News Corp. plans to invest and expand Dow Jones across Europe and Asia in addition to more coverage of national and international general news to compete with The New York Times.

At one time, the Joplin Globe was in the Ottaway chain. The Globe is now owned by CNHI, while GateHouse Media owns The Carthage Press,Neosho Daily News, Big Nickel, Neosho Post, and Greenfield Vedette in southwest Missouri.
