TV camera coverage sought for Memorial Middle School shooter case

KOAM filed a request with Judge David Mouton to allow cameras in the courtroom during all proceedings involving Memorial Middle School shooter Thomas Gregory White.

If the same process is followed that was used when I was at The Carthage Press, one media outlet makes requests covering anyone wanting to shoot footage at court hearings. The same request was made, usually through the Joplin Globe covering still photography.

White, 15, is charged with two counts of assault and single counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and attempted escape in connection with the October 2006 incident in which he entered Memorial Middle School, fired an assault rifle into the ceiling, then aimed the gun at Principal Steve Gilbreth, and tried to pull the trigger, but the gun jammed, according to authorities.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for May 23 in Jasper County Circuit Court.
