Government responds to attempts by Smith, Brown and Adams to reduce sentences

In sealed documents filed Friday with the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, the government opposed efforts by former Sen. Jeff Smith, D-St. Louis, former Rep. Steve Brown, D-St. Louis, and co-defendant Nick Adams to challenge the recommendations in their presentencing reports.

The three man, charged with election conspiracy centered around illegal activity during Smith's unsuccessful race against Russ Carnahan for Congress in 2006, are scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday in St. Louis.
