Prosecutor asks Judge to revoke Pete Newman's bond

When the preliminary hearing for former Kanakuk Kamp director Pete Newman starts in less than an hour, one issue that will be taken up is a motion filed by Taney County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Merrell to revoke Newman's bond.

The bond was initially set at $50,000 but was increased to $100,000 after Newman failed to show for the beginning of a hearing Oct. 29.

Newman is charged with four felony sex crimes involving underage boys.

What does "revoking his bond" mean? That he would be held until a trial????? Can they do that???

I think if your bond is revoked you are put back in jail and you lose the money you gave the bondsman. also think bonds are only revoked if the defendant has violated terms of his release or is now considered and flight risk.

don't think for a minute this defendant isn't a flight risk.his father has ties to so many wealthy influential people and so does pete. he has violated the terms by contacting campers and being with kids under 17. he has connections overseas too. if he can get somebodyto pay this defense bill he must have someone who could help him flee and he's a sex addict so he is really dangerous

I firmly believe he is a flight risk and has violated the terms of the bond agreement. A prosecutor can petition to have the bond revoked based on just the potential of flight or violation of agreement. It is automatically revoked if terms already violated.

I hope it is revoked...this dangerous man needs to be off the streets immediately. He is worse than a perpetrator that snatches children off the street.

Look, he's going to prison for a LONG time and he has to know it. He's still lying. He's still not telling his family the truth. He's violating the terms of his bond. He's connected to people with huge resources. WHY WOULDN'T HE FLEE?

They are IRRESPONSIBLE for allowing him to be out on bond anyway. Better get him while they can.

10:47 and 11:34 posters:
how do you know that he's violated his bond terms? i'm not at all defending him, just curious to know where you're getting your information. i'm just shocked at how little info is out there regarding this case and would love to know more.
thanks in advance!

For one thing, his daughter is 4 years old. He's been with her. Then, there are his brother's children. He has called camp families. His wife and parents know the terms of his bond and yet they allow him to violate them.

SICK PEOPLE OFTEN HAVE ENABLERS IN THEIR LIVES!

Not saying they intentionally want to enable, but they really need to take a few steps back and let him suffer the consequences he deserves.

Also, at the courts.missouri.gov site there is a motion to "shorten time" ... does anyone know what that means? I know it has something to do with asking for less time to present information or facts....or something like that. Would just like some clarification.

Well...he is able to be around his own children according to the agreement. But, should not have been around nieces or nephews and CERTAINLY not contacting campers...even if they are not one of his victims.

Anonymous said...

wow! i hope the families of those campers he has contacted have let the DA know. that is bad, bad, bad. why would he be contacting these other campers? it sounds to me like he's going to hang himself with his own rope, so to speak.

Randy, have you heard anything regarding the hearing today?

Any updates??

Someone mentioned on this blog that Pete's father is well connected with influential people. I know many of the people his father knows, and not one of them would encourage Pete to flee the scene. And, that includes Pete's dad. He is broken hearted about what Pete did, but he is not into breaking the law to protect his son from justice.

It's easy for our hearts to go out to the victims and their families, and, rightfully so. Their lives will never be the same because of Pete's self-absorbtion.

However, also let your heart go out to Pete's wife and parents. Their lives have also been forever turned upside down, along with Pete's three brothers.

Before all this came to light about Pete, the name Newman was highly respected in the Christian world. For me, it still is. However, the name Pete Newman is not.

My prayers, along with being for the boys and their families, are for Pete's parents, wife and brothers - who are also innocent victims in this whole mess.

Pete appeared to be a good Christian person. Obviously, all were deceived. I do not know the details of his family...father, mother or brothers...but, statitically this sort of behavior runs in families. Different theories as to why this is so (genetics or learned behavior)...but, almost always a perpetrator was perpetrated as young person themselves. It could be that this is not the case in this instance...we may never know. Unfortunately, pedophilia is the least curable of all "diseases" or "mental disorders." My prayers go out to all affected by Pete Newman's terrible actions. Regardless of "why" he must be held accountable and never, EVER be allowed to have contact with youth again.

About the statement of being well-connected: SOMEBODY is paying for this defense. It must be through his parent's connections because they are the only ones standing by him. Katie may be standing by him as well, but NOT her family. So if a Newman- "friend" is paying, wouldn't they also help him flee?

To answer the questions-

Can Pete Newman's bond be revoked and then have him be held for trial? Yes, that is done in situations in which the person is believed to be a danger to the community or a flight risk.

I have not heard anything new concerning the hearing. The Taney County Circuit Court online records indicate a new charge has been filed against Pete Newman and I have posted that information.

I would need to see the actual documents to know specifically what the "motion to shorten time" is.

Anonymous said...

The motion to shorten time was on the case.net site. I have looked up meaning...but, not sure how is applicable in this case and how the prosecutor was intending to use it.

How do you look up the court records on line in Taney Co?

I know people are hurting everywhere about this, especially all of the victims. I just want to encourage us all as followers of Christ to remember that we don't know all the facts. It is a strong assumption to assume someone who we are making up (meaning the person we are talking about being a flight risk) would aid him to leave the country. I think that is fear speaking. I think we need to trust that God has ALL of this in his hands. We don't know the end of the story yet. We don't know all of the relationships including his own family and how they are supporting him, challenging him. One person wrote, he isn't being honest with his family. I know his family, do you? Have you called them and found that out? Please be careful in what we all say. Let's all glorify God and let God handle this one. Just because a person has connections to wealthy people doesn't mean they are going to abuse them. Just because people are related doesn't mean they do the same things. That would be a crime to accuse other members of doing that. Think of his child, his wife... they didn't sign up for this either.
Also to clarify, he has not broken the terms; he is allowed to see his child.

Anonymous said...

Wow! He DOES still have supporters. Unbelievable.

I support ALL people... we are all made in the image of God. We are all redeemable. Christ died for all. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Every single one of us is capable of being tempted to awful things.

Anonymous said...

We are all tempted, yes...but, really now. Crimes against children fall in a completely different category than the typical adult temptations. You obviously do not have children. I support people as well and could even support Pete as he did the right thing. He is NOT doing the right thing.

Be careful what you say about people you do not truly know. Have you spoken with Pete? Do you know him personally? Do you know his past and the things that happened to him as a teenager? Have you made it a point to get the facts or are your comments just allegations based on your anger and disgust?

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1

Anonymous said...

Anonymous 8:11, it does not matter what happened to him as a teenager, he is responsible for his actions as an adult.

Anonymous said...

But, the thing is ... he will be judged. He has been charged with a crime that is punishable by law. He has the right to a fair trial ... where he will be judged.

I understand what you are saying (and quoting) in regards to judging others. But, with me, when it comes to a child being taken advantage of by an adult...that all goes out the window. Sorry.

Yes, this crap about things happening to us as teenagers causing us to do THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR!!! C'mon people! That's like saying that the girls who made fun of my buck teeth when I was 12 is going to make me go find every child with buck teeth and unmercifully crucify them today. PUH-LEASE! You grow up. You learn from the past. You deal with that, whatever that means (get therapy, counseling, confront your offender, whatever). You set out to live a life where you would never do the same things to another person.

If you're excusing little peter for his peter-obsession b/c someone did something to him when he was young, THEN EXPLAIN TO US HIS DECEPTION! EXPLAIN THE LIES. You don't decieve and lie IF YOU DON'T THINK WHAT YOU'RE DOING IS HORRIBLY WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!! That's common sense, people!

It's despicable enough to have oral and anal sex.....then to have it with the same sex.....BUT WITH A CHILD?!?!?!?! NUMEROUS CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sodom and Gomorrah going on right there at camp!! The reason that place is still standing is because it WASN'T KANAKUK; but PETER who was wicked!!!!!

His day is coming. The ANCIENT OF DAYS still sits on his throne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I went to Kanakuk back when Pete was a counselor. He needs our prayers, too. I am not defending him but God would want people to pray for the children, families, Pete's family, and Pete himself. His actions are horrible but through Christ there is no sin that is greater than a sin and there is no sin less than a sin. There is only one unforgivable sin and that is blasfemie. It may be hard for people to forgive him but God will if Pete has or will repent.
If you judge you too will be judged. No person is or has ever been perfect accept Jesus Christ.
Pete is and will continue to pay for his crime.

What you just said is SOOOOOO TRUE!!

However, WHAT he did "in the name of the Lord Most High" was EXACTLY BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If not, what IS blasphemy?!?!?!?!

Anonymous said...

blasphemy is the denial of the Holy Trinity. Saying that there is no God.

Anonymous said...

yes, and to make mockery of HIM....what litte-peter did

Both sides of you make points, but what your doing is stupid. There is no point in fighting over this. That's what court is for.
But coming from a former 15 year old camper, none of you know what's going on.
Pete was a great Christian, but we all face problems. Some of us don't even know we have one until it's actually happened and it's too late.
I knew Pete, he is just a kid stuck in an adults body. What he did are what some teenagers do as games today.
