Joplin Progress Committee officially files endorsements

The Joplin Progress Committee, the business group that has more than $19,000 available to influence the April elections, officially filed the list of candidates it will support with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

As previously announced, the committee will support the following candidates:

Joplin City Council-  General seats Miranda Lewis, Ryan Stanley; zone seats- Michael Seibert, Gary Shaw

Joplin R-8 Board of Education- Jeff Flowers, Randy Steele, Shawn McGrew, Lynda Banwart, Jeff Koch (Koch has accepted the endorsement, but will not accept any money from the committee.)

The committee has received more than $8,000 since the beginning of the year. In its fourth quarter filing, the committee listed the following contributors:

Looks like Webb City, Carl Junction and Thomas Jefferson Independent Schools are all well represented on this committee. Do they endorse candidates or policies in those districts?

It appears that Joplin has been bought out by outside business interests that have nothing to gain in the board election but some kind of financial gain. It isn't about how the schools are run. It's about how the money is used. Are we going to let outside interests allow our schools to be destroyed by the status quo? I'm voting for Fort, Koch, and Guilford and let the chips fall where they may for the crooks left on the board.
