Gov. Jay Nixon issued the following statement after the House of Representatives today passed two bills that would severely impact public education in Missouri:
“Just a day after taking $44.1 million out of K-12 education this year, the House passed not one, but two, fiscally irresponsible experiments that combined would funnel nearly a billion dollars out of our classrooms and other priorities,”Gov. Nixon said. “Even worse, the House has decided to add bankers to the growing list of well-heeled special interests that would get a tax break at the expense of our schoolchildren. It’s troubling that some of the same members who insist on shortchanging our schools are all too willing to pass multi-million dollar giveaways to banks.”
