Brunner calls on Nixon to reject Syrian refugees
Today John Brunner released the following statement calling on Governor Jay Nixon to take immediate action and block the relocation of Syrian refugees to Missouri following the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday:
"I call on Governor Nixon to reject President Obama’s Plan to relocate Syrian refugees to Missouri. The first and most important order of our state is to protect our citizens and their property. While I sympathize with the Syrian refugee problem, we must not risk any chance of putting our families and communities in harm’s way.
I strongly disagree with President Obama’s plan to relocate 10,000 Syrians to the United States, which St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay supports and said ‘It is the right thing to do.’
As Governor of Missouri I will pledge that the ‘right thing to do” is to protect and defend the citizens of Missouri first and always."
