Will Greitens be first indicted governor to visit the Pentagon?

This weekend, Governor Greitens will attend the 2018 meeting of the National Governors Association (NGA). He will participate in the Council of Governors meeting at the Pentagon, represent Missouri in the meeting of the Delta Regional Authority, and present to fellow governors on veterans issues as Vice Chair of the NGA’s Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee.

“The Governor’s top priority is creating more jobs for the people of Missouri. We’ve grown our National Guard by 800 jobs, and we’re fighting to protect our elderly veterans and ensure they get the care they deserve. The Governor will be discussing all of that and more with governors from around the country this weekend,” said Parker Briden, the Governor’s press secretary.

Governor Greitens will attend the Council of Governors meeting and briefing at the Pentagon on February 23. The Council of Governors consists of 10 governors appointed by the President to focus on matters of national security, homeland defense, synchronization and integration of State and Federal military activities in the United States and matters of mutual interest pertaining to the National Guard. In addition to the 10 council members, charter federal participants include the secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security, presidential homeland security and counterterrorism advisors, the commander of U.S. Northern Command, the commandant of the Coast Guard and the chief of the National Guard Bureau. Governor Greitens was originally appointed to the council by President Trump in 2017.

Governor Greitens will represent Missouri at the meeting of the Delta Regional Authority on February 24. The DRA is a federal-state partnership that is congressionally mandated to help create jobs, build communities, and improve lives in the 252 counties and parishes of the Delta. At least 75 percent of DRA funds are invested in counties that have an unemployment rate of one percent higher than the national average for the most recent 24-month period or that have a per capita income of 80 percent or less of the national per capita income. The Authority is helping to create and retain more than 41,000 jobs and has leveraged $2.7 billion in other public and private investment. In addition to his service on the Council of Governors, Governor Greitens serves as Vice Chair of the NGA’s Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee. On February 25, Governor Greitens will present remarks to fellow governors and NGA attendees at a session hosted by the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee titled “Caring for our Veterans Through Innovative Treatment and Rehabilitation.” He will join Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. David Shulkin and Governor Mark Dayton to share ideas on how governors can work to improve federal-state coordination and expand access to services and benefits.

Governor Greitens will also participate in the third annual Invest in America! Summit hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where he will join Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer to speak to U.S. and global job creators about the benefits of investing and creating jobs in Missouri.
