Angela Thomas files to face Ben Baker in 160th District

A rematch of the 2018 160th District House of Representatives race became likely a few minutes ago when Neosho City Councilwoman Angela Thomas, a Democrat, filed.

Thomas lost to then Neosho Mayor Ben Baker in the general election, after Baker, with considerable help of a $10,000 influx of dark money from the American Federation of Children, a pro-voucher and charter school group formed by the family of Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, defeated two other candidates in the Republican primary.

Thomas was appointed to the Neosho City Council in January 2019 to replace Baker after he resigned to take his seat in the legislature.

Oh I'm sure that $10,000 was responsible for the more than 7,000 votes by which Baker used to defeated Thomas.

You are certainly right about that. Of course, if you read the post, that is not what I said. The $10,000 played a big role in him winning the three-way primary to reach the general election.

She has no chance, that is unless she can re-incarnate herself as a 1970's blue dog Democrat. That is the only type of "D" that has any chance in this area. Pro-union, skeptical of tax increases, socially conservative. Practically extinct.
