Forty-four deaths added to Missouri's COVID-19 total

Missouri's COVID-19 death toll and the number of confirmed cases increased considerably today, according to statistics released by the Department of Health and Senior Services.

The spike in totals was due to one lab not submitting its test results to the state between April 16 and April 22, according to a message posted on the department's website.

The change increased the number of deaths by 44, from 218 to 262, and added 16 to bring St. Louis County's state-leading total to 121, followed by the City of St. Louis with 48, St.Charles County 26, Kansas City 14, Jackson County 9 and Greene County 7.

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Missouri stands at 6,625, an increase of 344 over Thursday's total.

Locally, Jasper County has had 16 cases, followed by Newton County with 10, Joplin 7, McDonald County 4 and none in Barton County.

Leaving Lamar Friday afternoon, headed to work around 4PM, I noticed the Walmart parking lot was pretty much full. How in the world can Barton County have no cases?
