With voters in Joplin heading to the polls on June 2 to elect city council members, and vote on a bond issue for the Joplin School District, KGCS-TV will provide an opportunity to hear from the candidates and learn more about the proposal.
A candidate forum featuring city council candidates will be aired live at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26. Each candidate will explain why they are seeking a position, and give their thoughts about some of the issues facing the city. The program will repeat in the evenings leading up to the election. Eleven candidates are seeking five seats in the June 2 election.
KGCS will also replay an episode of “Newsmakers” that was recorded earlier this Spring, and focuses on the JSD bond issue. Dr. Melinda Moss, Joplin Schools superintendent, and Kelli Perigo, a community representative – join Judy Stiles, host and KGCS general manager, to discuss the plan to build a new elementary school and add to another one. The show will air throughout the week of May 25, and is currently posted on the station’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTLL4YVIWHg&t=20s
KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21. It is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
