Ann Wagner: I stand with the peaceful protesters and pray for our police officers

(From Second District Congresswoman Ann Wagner)

Our local police departments along with the State Patrol and National Guard have put in many dedicated hours to respond to the recent protests and keep our community safe from incidents of violence and unrest.

My husband and I visited the local St. Louis operations command post to show our support and speak with them during the shift change to hear how they have been working to protect our greater St. Louis region during these protests and prevent any more violence. I thank all the officers who are serving our community with honor and compassion.

I am sickened by the death of George Floyd. We stand as one in agreement that abuses of power such as these are completely unjust. George Floyd’s name will be a rallying cry for positive change as we address entrenched racial disparities in America.

The right to assemble is one of the bedrock principles of American democracy, and I am a fervent advocate of our First Amendment right to take part in peaceful protests. I stand with the peaceful protesters who have expressed hope, anger, and courage in the face of tragic inequities. I am also praying for our police officers who are out there with the protesters fulfilling their duty and ensuring our streets remain safe in the wake of the wanton violence that has hurt so many this past week.

Read my full statement on the death of George Floyd and the recent protests here.

I am also praying for the family of David Dorn, the retired St. Louis police captain who was tragically killed by looters during this week’s violent unrest. Senseless violence like this does nothing to get justice for George Floyd and only pulls us further apart at a time when the circumstances demand we come together. Captain Dorn was loved by all those who knew him and embodied the ideal of protecting and serving.

David Dorn’s death must not be forgotten and we will honor his memory by following his example of faithfully serving those around us.

No mention of Trump?

No mention of his failed leadership and his maladministration's failed policies and tactics?

If you stand with Trump you stand with death and failure.

Ann Wagner appears to be nothing but another Trump Republican puppet.

Mitt Romney has already spoken out on the topic.

So now has Ann Wagner.

We only need to look at our military leaders who we all respected until Trump dragged them through the mud when they finally had enough of his BS. Colin Powell is held in such high esteem that few in our civilian system can even come close to being at his level of leadership. He has gone public condemning Trumps actions as nothing but a trail of lies. What more do these republicans need to see or hear, he is a crook and you are still sleeping with one along with all his little puppets of Hawley, Blunt, Long, Graves and Wagner. Good that our founding fathers are dead and do not think Eisenhower would have put up with this.

Wait a sec, I thought the Dems didn't like Colin Powell because of the whole weapons of mass destruction stuff? Oh well, as long as he hates Trump he's one of the good ones now right?

As far as I know no competent person ever suspected that Colin Powell was behind then scheme to fabricate a reason to invade Iraq under the weapons of mass destruction excuse. Unlike Dick Cheney and his ilk.

Donald "Bone Spurs Draft Deferment" Trump isn't fit to be the doggie doo on Powell's shoe but in Trump's mind he's the greatest hero ever.

And yet some apparently look at Colin Powell's criticism of President Trump's failed leadership and serial stupidity and the first thing that spills out is this both sides do it defense. Or is it something even more vapid?

Is this criticism of anyone who speaks out against something the most malevolent and incompetent idiot to occupy the White House in the last 100 years just the idiotic profiling that all Trump haters must all love all other Trump haters just because Trump haters?

You're right that no competent person thought that Colin Powell was behind it. Just the entire media and Democrat party.
He was vilified not just for that, but for the unholy crime of being a black republican working in a republican administration. Just like Condeleeza Rice. It may just be the enemy of my enemy is my friend situation, but it smells like hypocrisy. Just calling it like I see it. I like Powell, always have.
