Joplin Health Department reports eight COVID-19 deaths, record-high 95 patients in city hospitals

 

Eight Joplin residents have died due to COVID-19, according to news releases from the Joplin Health Department.

Two of the deaths, a 97-year-old man who lived in a long-term care facility and an 80-year-old man were announced in a news release Wednesday morning.

Six more fatalities were reported in the evening, including three men, two of them aged 90 and the other 94 and three women aged 98, 96 and 73.








Five of the six were residents of long term care facilities.

The number of coronavirus patients in Mercy, Freeman and Landmark hospitals increased from 87 the previous day to a record-high 95.

Fifty-six new cases were confirmed in 24 hours.
