A bond reduction hearing is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. Thursday in Jasper County Circuit Court for the homeless man charged with kidnapping a 4-year-old girl during Joplin's Third Thursday activities May 18.
The first court appearance for Johnny Arehart, 28, who is being held without bond in the Jasper County Jail, was held Monday with Arehart entering a not guilty plea and indicating he planned to apply for a public defender.
According to a news release from the Joplin Police Department, the alleged kidnapping took place at 3rd and Main with Arehart grabbing the child and attempting to carry her away. As the child's mother pursued them, other Third Thursday attendees joined the pursuit, stopped them and rescued the child who appeared unharmed.
