Eric Burlison: Supporting our police

(From Seventh District Congressman Eric Burlison)

This week, we honor the heroes in our communities – the brave men and women in blue. From enforcing the law against violent criminals, responding to emergencies, to comforting victims – our law enforcement officers are there when we need them most.

Let us all, take some time to honor the memory of the courageous men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Lives lost in sacrifice to others, lives we must remember forever.

This week, I voted for two pieces of legislation to support our law enforcement. The first was the POLICE Act of 2023 which makes assaulting law enforcement personnel a deportable offense. This comes in response to border agents being brutally assaulted by illegal aliens over the last several months. If individuals don’t respect our law enforcement, then they don’t deserve to stay in our country.

The second piece of legislation expressed support for law enforcement officers and condemned efforts to defund the police. While this seems non-controversial, over 100 Democrats voted against it. That's why it's more important than ever we continue to support law enforcement and ensure they have the tools & funding they need to thrive.
