Judge accepts plea bargain agreement for Joplin man on statutory rape charge

A Joplin man with a lengthy record of sexually abusing children was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday during a hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court.

Judge Gayle Crane approved the plea bargain agreement the Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office reached with David Timothy Gallovich, 57, which reduced the charge against him from first degree statutory rape and child molestation to a single count of second degree statutory rape.

During his plea hearing, Gallovich admitted to raping a girl who was younger than 17 in the summer of 2020, but the probable cause statement said he had been molesting the girl since 2017.

Gallovich had also been accused of raping a 12-year-old girl in 2017 and he had previously been arrested for child sex crimes in Arizona.
