In a sentencing memorandum filed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, the lawyer for Rita Michelle Glasgow says the U. S. Attorney's office violated its agreement on her sentencing on a meth trafficking charge.
Glasgow, 33, is currently serving 23 years in a Missouri prison after pleading guilty to felony driving while intoxicated in connection with the meth-fueled January 4, 2021 crash that killed Terry and Rhonda Copple of Joplin.
In a sentencing memorandum filed earlier this week, the government asked for a 10-year sentence for Glasgow to run consecutively with her Missouri sentence, citing her lengthy criminal history, including the DWI charge and her actions that have continued into her prison term.
That wasn't the deal, Glasgow's attorney, Abe McGull, Springfield, says.
Pursuant to this plea agreement, “[t]he parties agree to jointly recommend a sentence of 120 months. The parties further agree to recommend that the defendant’s sentence run concurrently with her sentence in Jasper County, Missouri Case Number 21AO-CR00021-01.After that agreement was reached, McGull said, Glasgow pleaded guilty. By going back on the agreement, he added, the government is not being fair to his client.
Glasgow's sentencing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday in U. S. District Court in Springfield.
