City of Neosho asking for combined water/sewer increase

(From the City of Neosho)

The City of Neosho Water is requesting a combined water and sewer increase. If approved, the rate increase will take effect October 1, 2023.

The proposed rate adjustments are needed to ensure that the City has sufficient revenues to fund operating and capital needs and provide appropriate levels of operating, capital, and emergency reserves.

The city's last rate increase became effective on October 1, 2017. There are two major cost factors in the proposed rate increase (1) continued rise of operating and maintenance costs for everyday operations and (2) much of our infrastructure is over 20 years in age with the filtration and wastewater plants pushing 40 plus years.

The requested increase includes the city's 20-year repair and replacement schedule with an emphasis on mitigating the city's large water loss. Currently, the water loss for the City is at 57%.

The last rate increase became effective on October 1, 2017 prior to this date, a rate increase was approved in 2010.

This increase covers both 1) the volume charge and base charge to fund general operation, maintenance, and other capital projects (Recommended Utility Rates table below); and 2) the fixed fee based on meter size to fund the Cities 20-year R&R (Replacement and Rehabilitation) Program.

Water base rate increase is $0.44 with the usage increase of $1.22 per 1,000 galloons for a total increase of $1.66. A rate calculator is located at the bottom of the page for customers with 1" or less meter size. Input your consumption to see the increase in your bill.

Sewer base rate increase is $5.73 with consumption decrease of $.58 per 1,000 gallons. The total increase is the Sewer rate is $5.15. The sewer is also listed on the rate increase calculator.

A Public Hearing will be held July 18th, 2023 at 7:00pm Neosho City Hall Council Chambers.
