Former State Rep. Bob Jackson, R-Greenfield, writes in the Greenfield Vedette that the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has applied for a grant to study the possibility of having Amtrak passenger rail service on Burlington Northern lines to Springfield.
If anything comes of it, the Amtrak lines in this area would run through Liberal, Lamar, Lockwood, South Greenfield, Everton, Ash Grove and Springfield.
Springfield has not had passenger rail service since 1967.
