While they have by no means achieved success...yet... southwest Missouri activists who have been fighting the relaxing of standards on corporate farming outfits are being heard in the state legislature, according to an article in today's Columbia Tribune.
If you remember, a law that would relax standards on the corporate farm outfits and prevent local communities from enacting their own laws, sailed through the Senate, but the legislation has become bogged down in the House, according to the article.
Republican Jim Guest of King City, who is working for passage of the bill in the House told the Tribune, "some House Republicans in southwest Missouri are receiving pressure from constituents who are concerned about the impact of poultry operations on water quality."
Hopefully, those southwest Missouri Republicans will pay attention to their constituents rather than to the handouts from the agribusiness lobbyists.

This bill is expected to be one of those that will receive a full-court blitz during the final week of the 2005 legislative session.
