Bartosh takes early lead in commissioner race

Apparently, the Jasper County clerks' office has released the first set of election results. KODE and the Joplin Globe are reporting that Carthage businessman John Bartosh, he who is not a politician, has the early lead with 741 votes to 673 for Carthage attorney James R. Spradling and 534 for incumbent Chuck Surface.
However, those totals are with only 10 of 48 precincts counted. In the past, you have might predicted that Spradling would dominate in Carthage, Surface in Joplin and Bartosh in much of the outer area, but this is not a typical election year.
Surface's arrest last week and the possible filing of DWI charges will undoubtedly resonate with some voters, while you can't discount the influence of Jasper County Sheriff Archie Dunn, who is backing Bartosh's candidacy.
It looks to be a wild night.
