Cooper in 2006: We need to protect honesty, integrity of immigration laws

The words of a Missouri state representative, featured in a July 2006 news release, sum up the importance of today's announcement that Rep. Nathan Cooper, R-Cape Girardeau, had pleaded guilty of immigration fraud.

"Immigration in our country has a long and proud history. We need to protect the honesty and integrity of our laws within the immigration system."

The man who wrote those words, Nathan Cooper, who at the time was a member of the House of Representatives Special Committee on Immigration Reform, apparently did not believe what he was saying.
