Appeals Court upholds convictions of Anderson Guest House owners

In an opinion issued March 12, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the convictions of Anderson Guest House owners Robert and Laverne Dupont on health care fraud charges.

The government said Laverne Dupont acted as a figurehead CEO of Joplin River of Life Ministries, which ran the Anderson Guest House and other Guest House facilities, while the one who was actually running the business was her husband Robert, who was not legally allowed to do so because of a previous Medicare fraud conviction.

The investigation into the Duponts came after the November 27, 2006, fire at the Anderson Guest House, in which 11 people were killed.
