Government asks for postponement of Peggy Newton sentencing

It appears it will be another month before Peggy Newton finds out if she will serve prison time for fraud.

In a motion filed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, government attorneys asked for sentencing, scheduled for March 23, to be delayed until at least April 17, to allow Mike Pine, the son of Mrs. Newton's former business partner at Evergreen and Amber, Diane Pine, to appear as a witness.

Pine, a CPA, provided much of the information that led to Mrs. Newton's indictment. With the April 17 tax filing deadline this year, he will be swamped until at least that time, according to the motion.

The court documents indicate Mrs. Newton had no objection to the postponement.
