GateHouse Media: Central design desk is a failure, but it's our failure

As I noted in an earlier Turner Report post this evening, GateHouse Media's efforts to fire scores of employees across the country while centralizing copy editing and design functions at two locations has been a miserable failure- but don't tell that to the folks who write the copy for GateHouse Media's website.

The move to centralized layout desks was named the top company story of the year.

It must have been a slow year at GateHouse.

GateHouse Media owns The Carthage Press, Neosho Daily News, Pittsburg Morning Sun, and more than 300 other newspapers.

Yes, it's never a good sign when your biggest company story of the year is how many people received a pink slip in the name of "progress".

After firing 60 pressmen in Springfield, Illinois, and printing the oldest newspaper in the state outside of the Capital City for the first time in its 181 year history, the quality absolutely SUCKS. GutHouse, er, GateHouse, is really quite an operation. The "design," if you could call it that, that originates from the Roxkford House of Type looks like Layout 101 and is pitiful and rife with errors. The once nationally respected photojournalism is embarrassing. Overall, a miserable shame. And GateHouse is so proud of this trash? Shameful.
