St. Louis Democrat prefiles gun safety law

A bill prefiled Thursday by Rep. Mike Colona, D-St. Louis, would require all firearms to be secured with a lock or stored in a safe or lockbox when not in use.

HB 89 is the third gun bill prefiled in the past couple of weeks, following bills that would require all Missouri first graders to undergo NRA gun safety training and one by Rep. Mike Kelley, R-Lamar, which would allow teachers and administrators at K-12 schools and higher education institutions to carry concealed weapons.

Under Colona's bill, failure to secure a gun would be a misdemeanor.

It will be interesting to see what laws actually get passed and what legal challenges come out of all of this.
