Video- Attorney general candidate: Common Core is a violation of your right to privacy

In the accompanying video, taken during the Newton County Republican dinner Saturday night by Jill Carter, Sen. Kurt Schaefer, R-Columbia, a candidate for attorney general in 2016,  compared Common Core Standards to the controversy surrounding the Department of Revenue earlier this year, with both serving as examples of how the federal government is collecting data on everyone.

"It is a violation of your right to privacy," Schaefer said.

The senator pointed out that the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has been implementing Common Cote through use of federal money, bypassing the state approval process.

"We will not fund anything they're doing until we know what it is."
