Besendorfer: When I share my vision, students love it, parents agree

In her recent article on the Milken Educators website, Joplin R-8 Assistant Superintendent Dr. Angie Besendorfer related her dream of creating a "silver lining from a funnel cloud," including such items as laptops for every high school students (followed since then by IPads for every eighth grader, and soon IPads for every middle school student) and  Career Pathways beginning at the middle school level.

She concluded her article with his paragraph:

This January we will begin enrollment processes for the new high school and technical school. The journey hasn’t been easy, but when we discuss the changes with our students they express their excitement. When I share the vision with adults many indicate their paths in life would have been different with a high school experience like the one we will provide. The tornado caused tremendous change. I’m proud that Joplin Schools turned that change into a positive future for our students.

Is that really what the students and parents in the Joplin R-8 School District. Believe.

I would love to have some comments.

Put your money where your mouth is, besendorfer. How about a survey conducted by an independent source? And, let's do a vote of confidence in upper admin and the board while we're at it.

In what universe? Not this one!

My adult life would really have been different. I'd have been well prepared for an entry level job instead of a college education and a profession. Glad I escaped before they had this idea!

The market for shinola isn't very good these days. Time to take your show on down the road.
