Advocates of stem cell research poured $25,000 into the Southwest Missouri Leadership Fund during early October, according to the January disclosure form filed Saturday with the Missouri Ethics Commission.
Supporters of Health Research and Treatment contributed $15,000 on Oct. 10, one day after the Life Sciences Fund of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce gave $10,000.
The Southwest Missouri Leadership Fund made only one contribution of its own during the period, $13,000 to Speaker of the House Ron Richard, R-Joplin, on Oct. 20. The Leadership Fund and Richard's campaign fund share the same treasurer, Joplin CPA Nick Myers.
Other contributions reported during the last quarter were $4,000 from Ameristar Casinos ($2,000 each from Ameristar in St. Charles and Ameristar in Kansas City), and $5,000 from Eagle Picher
