Democratic Party asks Blunt to return donation from controversial Texas firm

Missouri Democrats are lashing into Seventh District Congressman Roy Blunt for his acceptance of a maximum contribution from a Texas businessman who is under investigation by that state's attorney general. From the news release:

Today, the Missouri Democratic Party is calling on Congressman Roy Blunt to return the $4,800 he received from Patrick Cox, the CEO of TaxMasters late last year. Cox’s company claims to work with the IRS to resolve issues on behalf of taxpayers, however, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is currently charging Cox with multiple violations of deceptive trade practices that took advantage of consumers. “Congressman Blunt should immediately return these tainted contributions,” said Ryan Hobart, Communications Director for the Missouri Democratic Party. “There is no excuse for Congressman Blunt holding on to campaign cash from a man that has profited from sticking it to consumers in these tough economic times.”

Cox’s campaign contributions have already become a national issue surfacing in Senate campaigns across the country. Both U.S. Senate candidates Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire and Senator David Vitter Louisiana are facing criticism for their donations from TaxMasters executives.
