Republican U.S. Senate Candidate John Brunner issued the following statement following Gov. Jay Nixon’s veto of SB 749.
“I am disappointed, but not surprised that Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed legislation designed to protect Missourians’ religious liberties. It’s a sad truth that Americans’ religious liberties are under attack with ObamaCare’s federal mandates.
In February, I wrote a letter commending Archbishop Carlson for his decision to oppose the Obama administration’s policies that would trump the religious freedom Americans hold so dear. I also strongly supported Senator Roy Blunt in his push to pass an amendment repealing the HHS mandate in ObamaCare, which Senator McCaskill voted against.
The only way to truly rid ourselves of ObamaCare in its entirety is to defeat Claire McCaskill and Barack Obama in November. As a U.S. Senator, I will fight to ensure Americans’ religious liberties are always protected and the first step in making that happen is to repeal ObamaCare in its entirety.”
